【摘要】:Thistestmethodcoverstheevaluationofasbestostextileswithregardto(1)qualityand(2)elevatedtemperatureserviceabilitycharacteristics.Sinceasbestostextilesareusuallycomposedofblendsofasbestoswithcottonorotherorganiccarrierfibers,thelatterbeingpresentinamountsupto25%,temperaturesabove150x00B0;C(300x00B0;F)willpromotethedegradationofthecottoncontentandwillreducethestructuralreinforcementderivedtherefrom.Inthehighergradeasbestostextiles,whereinlittleornocarrierfibersareusedandinwhichthelongerasbestosfibersarenecessaryifasatisfactoryyarnistobeproduced,thedegradationinstrengthresultingfromheat-agingupto540x00B0;C(1000x00B0;F)islow.Inthecaseofthelowergradeasbestostextiles,however,whereinamountsfrom15to25%carrierfibersareincorporated,asbestosfibershavingshorterlengthsmaybeutilized.Undertherelativelylowservicetemperaturestowhichsuchmaterialsmaybesubjected,neitherthecottonnortheclothpropertiesaregreatlyaffected.However,thestrength-impartinginfluenceofthecarrierfibersisreducedatelevatedtemperaturesandtheentwiningpropertiesoftheshorterasbestosfibersprimarilyservetoestablishtheresultanttensilestrengthandotherphysicalpropertiesofthetextile.Inviewofthis,elevatedtemperaturetestsmayservetoindicatetheasbestosfibergradeorqualitythatmaybeusedinatextileconstruction.Anotheruseandperhapsmorepracticalapplicationfortheinformationtobederivedfromelevatedtemperaturestudiesistherevelationoftheabilityofasubjecttextiletowithstandknownelevatedtemperatureserviceconditions.Itwillbeappreciatedthattemperaturealonemaynotbetheonlydegratoryinfluenceinthedestructionofsuchmaterials;however,undernormaloperatingconditions,hightemperaturesareusuallythedominatingfactorsinsuchdegradation.Theresultsobtainedthroughsuchinvestigationsthereforemaybeinterpretedintermsofelevatedtemperatureserviceability.1.1Thistestmethodcoverstheheatagingofasbestostextiles.Itmaybeusedtodeterminetheresistancetothedeteriorationoftensilestrengthattemperaturesupto450C(800F).1.2ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.3Warning-Breathingofasbestosdustishazardous.Asbestosandasbestosproductspresentdemonstratedhealthrisksforusersandforthosewithwhomtheycomeintocontact.Inadditiontootherprecautions,whenworkingwithasbestos-cementproducts,minimizethedustthatresults.Forinformationonthesafeuseofchrysoltileasbestos,referto"SafeUseofChrysotileAsbestos:AManualonPreventiveandControlMeasures."1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Forspecificsafetyhazard,see1.3.
